Name: Dying Eagle Age: 48 Moons Rank: Leader Gender: Tom Picture: Click Appearance: Eagle is a very slim tom cat, but has a thick haired pelt that it covers a lot of the bones of his ribs whenever he is close starving. However, the pelt is no that long at all and so even though it is thick, if you look close enough and actually take the time to concentrate, you might be able to see a few bones here and there. Eagle, if he was not starving or had any scars on him or anything else to that effect, would actually be a pretty handsome tom. He has a very sleek pelt, when he actually takes the time to groom himself that is a dark color, some would call it a cross between black and brown. However, if he does not take the time to make himself look good, it is ruffled and poofs out, making him look like a big fluff ball. There is also a tint of blue within his pelt, but the blue is more of a grayish blue. His face really stands out from the rest of his pelt though. It is a light tan color and on his left cheek there is a large scar that still seems to have some dried blood on it.
Thankfully his face in general does stand out, otherwise his eyes would really jump out. They are not necessarily bright, but have a very impressive color green to them that really does make them look bright. They are similar to the color of grass on a bright sunny day and really do a good job portraying how he feels. If they are harder, more like a rock then anything else, then he is angry and not in the best of moods. If it is more of a liquid kind of look like it was a river, flowing oh so gently down stream, then he is in a good mood and is peaceful. Finally, if the yellow rim around his eyes have seemed to grow, almost taking over all the green, then his scared and unsure about his surroundings. Though his eyes can also show what sort of things have happened to him. If you take the time to really concentrate on his eyes when he is in deep thought, you could see certain aspects of his past happening in them. Shapes of cats, shapes of badgers, etc. Sometimes, you might even see the shape of an eagle in which he was given his name. Personality:He is a caring, kind and polite cat. He cares only for those around him and even though he does hunt for himself first as everyone does, he makes sure that he gets some prey for others, especially queens and elders. He would fight to the end for his cats and worries every day what is going to happen the next, especially after the shooting star flew by. History: It was a cold, harsh leaf-bare that he was born into. His brother and sister caught greencough right after they were born, and no one knew what herb would help the disease. Every cat thought he was going to die as well. He was name Dying Eagle for two reasons, one reason was the most obvious. Some looked at him and thought of him to look similar to an eagle, and many hoped he had the strength of one. And since many of them thought he was going to die eventually, they wanted the part of "Dying" there was well. Though that was not the reason why his mother had named him as such. She had named him Dying Eagle because she swears the night he was born, she heard an eagle screech in terrible agony in the distance. She had the best hearing in the group of cats, so no one believed her, but she thought it to be an omen. An omen that even though Dying Eagle may have the strength and loyalty to those around him as and eagle does, he was going to die as well, just like his siblings. The days dragged on and once, he caught whitecough and it was almost bad enough that he could've easily got greencough, but somehow his body fought it off with the little herbs the cats knew. Every cat watched in awe as they kit they had thought was going to die before the end of one of the hardest leaf-bares on the moor, lived on everyday, seeming only to get better and better, stronger and more likely to live pass it all. Finally, leaf-bare had ended it's grips on the territories beside the lake, and he had survived. By the end of the leaf-bare, he was a healthy young kit and as soon as the lake promised warmth with new-leaf, the leader of the cats decided he was ready. He had passed the test of time, the test that he exceeded a time when every cat, even his own mother, thought he was going to die. After that, the leader had great expectations for him.
As a cat in training, he had trained hard and long to live up to the expectations the cats around him seemed to push onto his shoulders. They seemed to look at him with the same respect that the leader would be given, as if they could see something he couldn't. Now, he had never been the type of cat to ever have the type of ambition it would take for him to want to become the leader, though he clearly knew as his training went on that every cat thought he was going to. They all knew the type of look the leader gave him, as if he was just waiting for the day Dying Eagle would become a strong Sharpclaw and exceed everything laid out before him and when that day came, he would resign and give Dying Eagle the position. Though that was not something he wanted. No, Dying Eagle only wanted to be a Sharpclaw and he was fully prepared to deny the offer, when it was made. However, there are a few things, stronger than certain desires, and one of those was quickly approaching him that would change the course of his life, for good. Though before that time would come, something else happened, badgers. The ancient cats always had troubles with the badgers, but they seemed to have been gone for many moons after the Two-leg Invasion. In reality, the only left for a while. The badgers came back and Dying Eagle was hunting near where their camp had been. As they approached him, he fled away from the returning badgers, and they gaze chase to not only show that he was in their territory, but also so they could show his friends they were back. When they approached the line tat would officially end the badgers territory, other cats jumped at the badgers, managing to make it look like an ambush. Dying Eagle jumped around and joined the fight and together they managed to make it clear they did not want the badgers back and after that, they never saw the badgers again. Though, he didn't get out out of the battle unscathed. He was given a deep slash to the cheek and even to these days, the blood still seems to seep out of it.
After much training, he finally was given the chance to become a Sharpclaw. The leader came up to him, and told him it was his time. He had been falling in love with a she-cat just a moon ago named Calling Bird and he wanted to get through it better than any other cat before him, to impress her. As he entered the tunnels and met the cat called Rock, he started to feel unnerved. The tunnels had such a weird vibe and he swore he could hear the mewing of dead cats before him. Finally when Rock finished telling him what he had to do and dismissed him, Dying Eagle choose a tunnel that seemed right and followed it through. With every step he grew worried, wondering if he was going to die in the tunnels like others before him had. Maybe he was finally about to become a "Dying" Eagle. Though a day seemed to pass before he could see sunlight seeping into the tunnel, he found out he had done it. He had passed the challenge and became a Sharpclaw. As he pushed his way forward to see his family and friends gathered around the exit waiting for him, he smiled and felt a feeling of pride. The biggest obstacle in his life and he finally had passed it...well, the biggest one so far. He had become a Sharpclaw at twelve moons and now awaited for the love of his life, Calling Bird to also become one. When her day came, he made her promise to come out alive. She had promised, but she never did. He waited longer than all the other cats for her to come out, but she never did. He felt a pang of sorrow and it was only to become worse.
One by one, his family died in front of him. His mother and father died together of greencough. After their deaths, he had no one, no one besides the leader at least. With time a strong bond had grown between them and Dying Eagle never wanted him to die. Things were so peaceful and that is how he wanted things to stay. There was no reason why he had ever wanted anything bad to happen to anyone else, but he missed his loved ones, especially Calling Bird. Though, one day when he was 38 moons, something did happen. The leader announced that he felt that he was no longer the right cat to lead the cats around him. Many figured that it was because he was getting old, getting to the point where he couldn't even care for himself. Actually, he should've been considered an elder long ago, for death could catch up to him at any moment. The leader announced that Dying Eagle was going to be the next leader and no cat denied it. They all had seen Dying Eagle fight, the compassion he held for others, and knew he would be a good leader for them. He never wanted to be leader and even though he wanted to deny it, as he had always knew he would, he decided against it. One day the leader would die just like all the others he had grown attached to and he wanted the leader to die in peace, knowing the cats he had once led were being lead by a cat he had always trusted. Besides, Dying Eagle wanted to make sure no other cats died the way Calling Bird had. It was only a moon later that the leader died of greencough and a moon after that, that the shooting star appeared, changing Dying Eagle's life forever. Other: -
