Dying Eagle Death, is only a claw-length away.
A dark brown tabby tom padded along the shore of the lake, nearest to the oak forest. His eyes gazing over at the shimmering blue expanse of water, wondering what it would be like to be able to walk on water. Though, these days, it seemed like that was only a matter of time, and one day he might be able to. Things were so strange lately, what with cats waking up with two tails, or other weird things happening to their bodies, while others woke up with strange...well, abilities. He didn't really quite know what to call them exactly. He wondered how long it would be until one of these strange things happened to him, happened to everyone he knew. What would become of every cat around the lake if these strange things never seemed to subside? Would life ever become normal again? Somehow he doubted it. And this all started with one, strange shooting star with a green tail. Was that suppose to mean something? Should he, being leader of these cats that held their homes mainly on the moors by the lake, do something? Was he expected to do something? He shook his head, unsure of the answer.
Dying Eagle after a few more fox-length snapped out of his thoughts when he realized the half-bridge that marked the border between the pine forest and oak forest was in front of him. Taking a deep breath (hoping it would calm him down a tad) he jumped up onto the strange wooden grounding and padded forward until he was at the very edge. Slowly, he dropped himself down onto his belly, afraid he'd fall into the water. Now he wasn't afraid of the water, just didn't feel like getting wet at the moment. As his green eyes, like a blade of grass dancing in the sun, gazed down into the water, he realized he was looking at his reflection, and he saw the scar along his face, left over from when he had helped as a Cat in Training, to drive out the badgers after they came back all those moons ago. His paw dropped so it hung over the water, just barely touching it. The tom could feel the cold water, just melting from a long leaf-bare, send a shiver up his pelt, but to say the least, it felt good.

[/glow] How can I stop, The hands of a god, From moving on. When every second is never enough Power, no power. Special, not special. Different, normal. Darkened Angel didn't know what to believe these days, and she didn't know what she wanted either. Did she want to be special and have strange abilities like the few cats that did? She would be different from the rest, singled out as something else and paid more attention to, she would like that, right? Or did she want to remain normal and stay hidden in shadows like she had been doing for the past half of her life? Maybe it was time to step out of the darkness and try to become what she had been before. But that wouldn't fit with her name, now would it. Even though her personality wasn't what she was named for, it still fit how she acted perfectly.
Spying the figure of a brown tabby tom, Darkened Angel tilted her head slightly to the side and tried to catch his scent. When that attempt failed, she heaved herself up from the tree branch that she had been resting upon and lightly jumped to the ground with almost no sound. It had to be her leader, Dying Eagle, since she didn't know anyone else with such an magnificent tabby pelt. As she followed the trail that the tom had taken, she confirmed her suspicions. She took on a light trot, with her gaze flickering to one side and another in case danger were to jump on her. She once again slowed to a pad as the half-bridge came into view with Dying Eagle laying in a relaxed position.
She hesitated just for a moment, wondering if she should disturb him. He probably already knew that she was here and if he didn't want her here, then he could tell her to leave. But then again, did she want to be in a company of a cat? Wouldn't it just be awkward since she probably wouldn't open up and be friendly toward any cat in general. Pushing doubts away, she softly padded up the expanse of the bridge and paused about two tail length's from her leader. Good day, Dying Eagle. she said, trying to smile but not really succeeding. Why couldn't she just be friendly toward another cat of her so called 'family'? [/blockquote][/blockquote] Because nothing lasts forever We are just two people, In this big thing called love. Every second turns into minutes, turns into hours turns into nothing.

The tabby tom was still gazing down at the water, not even noticing that another cat from the group he led these days, was approaching. When the she-cat spoke, it sent a chill down his spine, scaring him half out of his wits. At least I wasn't standing up. I'd hate to have fallen in, especially in front of a cat I'm suppose to lead. He sighed, embarrassing thoughts like that were the least of his troubles these days, which annoyed him. Sometimes he wished he could just resign as leader and give the stress he felt to another cat. Sometimes he wished he could just walk back in time and stop himself from ever letting that old tom to give him the position he thought he deserved; Dying Eagle never deserved this honor...well, what some cats might call an honor at least. To the tabby tom, it seemed like a curse...feeling so useless at a time like this, when something happened that never happened before.
It's not like your the only one. Stop being so stinkin' selfish!
He sighed. Whenever did he get such a conscious? Then again it always seemed like there was another voice in his head, even though it was just him voicing the things he never wanted to hear. It was right though, after all there were things like the Two-leg Invasion. What had those cats thought? Had they ever thought it was all useless? According to the elders there were some who thought that the group should just move to a new territory in general. Maybe they should've. After a moment, the wind changed and the scent of the cat behind him caught in his nostrils. Mouse-dung! He stood up and twirled around in a movement so fast, he lost balance and feel into the water. He hissed at himself and swam towards the shore. As his paws met solid ground, he dug his claws into it and pulled himself out. "So much for being an eagle. I guess I am more like a Dying Eagle." He smiled to himself and shook the water from his pelt.
After a moment, his green eyes looked back at the cat who had been behind him, and noticed her dark pelt. Darkened Angel, if I'm not mistaken. Dying Eagle was horrible at names. He couldn't remember one to save his life, but hers was one that he couldn't forget...which he didn't quite understand. He took a deep breath to calm his shaking (from the cold water, not the fact that he was nervous about the she-cat...which he wasn't...) body and jumped up onto the dock. Smiling he mewed, "Er, sorry about that. I wasn't expecting anybody...and then I got caught in my thoughts I..." What was he suppose to say? That he forgot she was there? That after she mewed to him, her presence just kind of left as other thoughts swirled around him? Now that wouldn't be very nice. He just flicked his ears and sat down again.

[/glow] I remember, we used to smile together. You gave me your name and we danced. And the moon switched with the sun. Darkened Angel actually thought about turning around, making some lame excuse, and darting away from the uncomfortable silence that filled the space after her voice had drifted out into the air. She had seen the sudden tensing of his muscles under that gorgeous pelt as though he had been slightly startled by her words. But he failed to notice her presence which made Angel even more uncomfortable. He really didn't want her there, did he? This was probably his plan, to ignore her and hope that she would understand. Of course she did, she used this tactic herself when she wanted other cats to leave her alone.
Her tail drooped a bit and she couldn't deny the feeling of disappointment at her leaders actions. She had actually hoped that she could spend some time with Dying Eagle so that she could try to feel at home in her clan. Like she had someone to talk to, like she had a friend, like she belonged. She twitched her ear in hesitation, successfully hiding what she was really feeling. Why did it matter anyway, this was what she deserved for ignoring and shutting others out of her life. She was about to turn and pad away when suddenly Dying Eagle whirled to face her and accidentally fell of the edge and into the cold water.
Angel widened her eyes slightly in surprise as her leader disappeared from her view, only to appear moments later on the shore. He still didn't seem fully aware that she was there, since he made a comment to himself. She allowed a small smile to graze her face as she heard his remark. So he actually had sort of noticed her? It's fine... she said softly, not really knowing what else to say. Are you alright? she asked for the lack of anything else to say. She realized that this was probably the most words she had said in a couple of days, due to the lack of any real friends or conversations. [/blockquote][/blockquote] These past months begin to fade and they say what goes up must come down but I've been flying forever, when will I hit the ground?

Dying Eagle turned his head, licking the fur on his shoulders to help dry them off and listened to her as she spoke. She seemed almost...hesitant. He hoped he hadn't made her feel bad when he forgot she was there...Eagle was always a bit hard to be around, when his thoughts started taking over his mind. After all, if someone would ever be able to read his mind (which wouldn't surprise him these days) they would find that his head was one big muddled, cramped space filled with thoughts that did not seem to coexist easily. Like cats and two-legs, his thoughts were alien to each other and would still fight if got too close together, fighting for control of his current train of thought. That is mainly why if he stopped half-way through his thoughts, he would automatically start on a whole new thought process. It bugged the heck out of him.
There you go again!
He hissed at himself. Seriously though, how hard was it to stay on track? He turned back to Darkened Angel and flicked his ears as he mewed, "I'm fine. A little drenched and a bit cold, but could be worse. It could be leaf-bare water. Now that would be cold." A chuckle came up his throat as he thought about it. Knowing him he would fall in the water during leaf-bare, only then it might not be as easy to get out. Maybe it is best to avoid the half-bridge in any seasons that are now Green-leaf or late New-leaf. I'm lucky to have it be a warm day out, and with the sun shining oh so proudly... his thoughts trailed on for a while before dying out. Not only did he interrupt thoughts to go to something random, but he would ramble on in his head for a while, usually after cutting his voice off.
He flicked his tail as he looked closely at the black she-cat. She seemed to be a bit awkward. His thoughts went back to his rudeness of earlier. Trying to make up for it, he mewed, "Are you alright? I didn't make you awkward earlier, did I?" He felt awkward himself around her, not for the same reason though. He felt odd around any she-cat after what happened to his past mate, or soon-to-be-mate, however you would take her. He had loved Calling Bird, but she had never returned from the tunnels and after that...he has been afraid of the tunnels, never straying too close. He hardly ever went to join the other cats as they awaited for a Cat in Training to come out...fear always gripped at him at that point and when cats went in. It made him think who would be hurt if the cat never came out. He shook his head to clear his head.

[/glow] It's not that I don't believe in us. It's just that I can't see how you would seem to care. It seemed that Dying Eagle had trouble focusing since his attention kept drifting. He was probably deep in thought, Angel knew how it felt. And he should have a lot to think about these days. There was that strange green rock that blasted through the sky and then there were the two-legs who just couldn't seem to leave them alone. Darkened Angel could not imagine what it would be like having to be the leader of the Ancients. It must be hard.
She nodded in agreement at his comment. Yes, leaf-bare water would be freezing, unless ice had already begun to cover the water. Of course that made it even more dangerous to fall in, once you broke the ice and got carried away by the current, you wouldn't be able to break the surface again.
Of course Eagle's comment just made her awkwardness more prominent and she ducked her head slightly to avoid his gaze. Her first instinct was to shut up, ignore the question, and hope that he would get the hint but she felt differently this time, as though it would be rude to do that. Hadn't she gotten used to being rude to others? No, you didn't. Not really. she said softly, suddenly seeming very interested in the ground. Why were you out here? she asked, trying to change the subject without making it too obvious. Of course that also failed. [/blockquote][/blockquote] It's just how I feel, just keeping it real. Cause' boy, I need you here to help me through it.

"Why were you out here?"
She had asked that, but he was not quite sure, Part of him thought it was because the water soothed him in times when he was troubled, but then why come way out here when he could merely have gone to the water more near where they sheltered? Another part of him thought it was because he wanted to be alone, to think to himself, but then why was he so eager to be with Darkened Angel as she stood nearby? Such a simple question, and yet there were so many answers and none of them...seemed true enough to apply to the question. He looked back out to the water, as if the answer, the true one would be held on the surface in reaching distance for the leader to grab. I wish answers cam that easy, it would make some things so much easier. He flicked his tail and looked back to the black she-cat.
"You know, I really don't know," He finally decided. He shook his head and looked back towards the forest that seemed to separate between the Pine and the Oak, with the river between them as a border clearly seen. "I came out for a walk this morning to think and just kept wandering. Sometimes it seems like...," he paused, trying to think of the correct words to describe what he was feeling. It wasn't exactly an immense feeling, not one that stood out among the others that probably should, but yet it seemed to explain his being out here, the importance of the water at this particular spot on the lake. It was just one of those feelings you knew was there, just didn't know exactly what it was. After the moment's pause, he decided upon, "Water is so much different than anything else. Things can stir it and yet, it goes back to normal. Sometimes I wonder if things stir our lives up, if we are suppose to be like the water. Forget, move one, and go back to normal."
The words surprised Dying Eagle, even though they came out of his mouth. The biggest thing stirring his life was that most obvious; the shooting-star in the night sky. Was he suppose just to let things happen and move on? Were the cats around him suppose to just adapt to these strange things and move on? To go back to the way things had been before the flying green rock had interrupted their lives? He shook his head, unsure. Though, unknown to the tabby tom, there was another thing in his life it could be applied to, the fact that he never seemed to forget that his old love had never returned from that that was a normal aspect of an Ancients life. The thing he had said, could pretty much tell him-if he knew what to listen for-that somethings happen, and he should lead a different life, a normal life...well as normal as normal seems to be anymore.

[/glow] What can I feel? There is nothing that's real If you know how to look As though you're not part of it. Dying Eagle didn't seem to care that she was having issues being around him, and it made her feel happy. She had issues around all the cats and so it was troubling to make friends when they thought that she didn't like them. Of course that was mainly true, since she didn't really like anyone. But Dying Eagle was different, like he didn't care about how she acted now in the beginning.
Suddenly words started tumbling out of Dying Eagle, surprising Darkened Angel a little but making her pleased at the same time. She was happy that they were finally starting up something that could be called a conversation. Angel took this chance to lightly pad over to the bridge's edge, where Eagle had been laying before, and sat down. She studied the water while her leader enlightened her about his current thoughts.
That's very true... Darkened Angel said softly once Dying Eagle had finished speaking. She kept her eyes on the water, intelligence sparkling in her eye as she thought about his words. But water isn't always like that. she added, her voice still soft. Reaching out a paw, she lightly pushed a pebble into the water. Water adapts to whatever it is given. If you place a rock in the shallows, the waves with lap around it as though it is only a small obstacle. That's what I think life is like. Angel raised her eyes to her leader's, wondering if these sudden burst of words helped his pondering in any way. [/blockquote][/blockquote] As though your not part of something big. Because I know, That we are going to change the world, someday.

- | D y i n g | E a g l e | - - | Complications give birth to a new understanding | -
The brown tabby tom watched her as she spoke, thinking about her words. "Water adapts to whatever it is given...That's what I think life is like." Something about that did seem true, maybe that is all they had to do was just adapt to it. Adapt to the fact that once in a while if the light was right you could see green residue in the sky. Adapt to the fact that some cats could do crazy things. Adapt to the fact that, well the fact that things were never normal anymore. Even if things do seem normal, they won't stay normal for long. Everyday could mean something disastrous...but only if that is how they looked at it! If we stopped looking at these strange things as scary and unusual, but rather interesting and important, then maybe that could mean a new beginning for us. His ears pricked up at this and a smile appeared on his face.
He padded forward towards Darkened Angel until he stood just behind her and sat down, staring off across the sunset. "And these things given to us, they could help us in a way, we could never have thought before." He felt special knowing that. In a way he could imagine for the first time what it must have been like to be the leader right after the Two-leg invasion, realizing that he and those he cared about managed to pull through a time that would be harder than anything before; of course this shooting star was only a small obstacle compared to what almost drove the Ancients out from the land that they knew beside the lake to a possible home out in the mountains that they never even seen up close. What great courage that might've taken, for those before us to want to lose everything we know here for some new way of life. He shook his head and looked down at his paws.
Dying Eagle's eyes opened again as he looked out at the water. Everything that has happened in the history of the Ancients, has led to a new understanding about the world around them! I see now... "With each complication we are given, we are really given a new piece of knowledge as well." He looked at the black she-cat, wondering if she could understand what he had meant by that, without hearing what thoughts led him to it. With the Two-leg Invasion, they learned how to cope with the Two-leg creatures and with the badger attack, they learned how to fight back against creatures who would always be their enemies. But, what is there is learn from what is happening now? To learn how to put up with morphs and powers or to learn how to use strange things to their advantage....? It's possible, he thought silently.

[/glow] But if we could Change the world, Would you still care, If it didn't matter to me? Darkened Angel had always wondered what it would be like to live a normal life, or any life that wasn't hers. Would it be better in any way? She couldn't understand what it would be like to be normal, to have friends, to actually feel wanted and like she belonged. These things were strange and unrealistic for Darkened Angel. Of course, she had Ocean Storm and Wet Lynx, but normal cats had more friends and they felt secure around everyone. The reality was that she could never go back to what she had been before everyone had left her.
But why couldn't she be like she had been before?! Why was it so hard for her to let go of her secure shell and burst free as a new being. But then of course she remembered why. This was after all the thing she thought about most of the time. She was afraid, deathly and terrifyingly afraid. Afraid to love. Afraid that the things she loved would go away and leave her yet again with that cold, horrid feeling inside. She couldn't go through that again, not a second time.
She glanced back briefly as Dying Eagle sat down behind her. His presence was comforting, something she probably wouldn't admit to anyone. She wasn't supposed to feel comfort, she was in a shell were no one could reach her. That's at least what others thought, something that Angel had struggled to achieve over the years. But now she wasn't sure that she wanted that protective cover anymore. A faint smile adorned her lips as Dying Eagle responded to her words and she gave a slight nod, her eyes scanning the calm waters beyond her.
"With each complication we are given, we are really given a new piece of knowledge as well." she didn't quite know what to respond to that. She had never seen the two-leg invasion or this strange shooting star as a positive thing in life. Change was never good, but hadn't Darkened Angel just told Dying Eagle the opposite thing? Oh how her mind confused her. Could these supernatural powers really be something good, something that the Ancients could prosper from? Too many questions. She could feel her leaders eyes trained on her, and she wondered how to respond. You're saying that these powers could be used for good? she asked softly, keeping her orbs trained on the soft lapping of water on the shore. Would you want to be different if you knew you could help the others around you?
Would you care That this wasn't so important to me. I understand if you leave, I understand if you fade. But just know that I'll cry myself to sleep.

- | Dying - Eagle | - - | Is there a truth, behind these lies? | -
"Would you want to be different if you knew you could help the others around you?" The tom opened his jaw to speak, but nothing came out. Would he really want to change? Would he want these powers to effect him that very night, even though he was afraid of it happening in fear of what would happen? He wasn't sure. He looked out at the water, remembering how when he first came out here that day he thought about how cool it would be to be able to walk on water. To set his paws on the water, as if it was just another piece of land. But, that was a lie, water could never be land so why would he want to be able to do it? These powers were taking everything they knew to be true, and turning them into lies. Cats can't fly, and yet there were some that were sprouting wings as if they were hawks! Cats can't create fire and yet for some cats, they just had to look at a bush and it burst into flame. With each thing new that comes about, it turns something else into a lie. They were being lied to in the face!
But what about Calling Birds? Dying Eagle's ears pricked up and sat there, staring into the distant. The thought had come to him like a voice might, but he wasn't sure what it meant. Calling Birds, his first true love died in the tunnels during her Sharpclaw mission. Could these...lies really have helped her at all? He remembered when he himself ventured into the tunnels, how dark, cold, and wet it had been in there. It had been lonely and he hadn't known for sure if he would live. The fur-less body of the ancient Rock and the way he stared at Eagle with those creepy blind eyes...could the powers the cats are gaining now really have helped Calling get through the tunnels? Well...if she would have had the power to make fire, she would have been warmer. If she had had the power to walk on water, the river would not have been a problem. If she would have had the ability to talk to someone in their mind, she would have been less lonely...It could've helped her!
He shook his head and looked back to Darkened Angel and mewed with pain in his voice, "There have been so many deaths in the past that were caused by something we know. Water, hunger, cold...but if they would have, or another cat would have, had one of these strange powers to help them...there would be less death and pain in our world. If a power I was given was able to help keep another alive...I'd give up anything to do so, even everything I know to be true." The leader's green eyes glowed with pain, as he wondered what he was missing out since she died. A family, love...a life? The last thought scared him a bit, but he knew it was true. Since she died, he had lived less as well. Always trying to get away and be alone, trying to do the minimum to get attached...especially with she-cats and avoiding the tunnels, even when a CIT was done in them. What have I been doing? He shook his head, unsure of the answer.

[/glow] And then maybe you, Could forget about the past, Maybe you could smile again. Because even if you didn't realize, I'd die to see you happy. The silence dragged on, but Darkened Angel didn't mind. The tom behind her was actually thinking about what she had said, and it felt nice to know that somehow she had helped out in his thoughts. It seemed as though Dying Eagle's thoughts were confused and buried deep in his mind. She knew how it felt, her thoughts were after all her only truthful friend. Her thoughts were the only ones that she could actually trust.
And then suddenly the mood changed about her leader and the air grew sadder as thought Eagle was remembering something tragic. Should she glance back and see his expression, or pretend that she hadn't noticed how his heart had seemed to ache for something. In the end, she stayed where she was, not wanting to appear too worried about him. That wasn't who she was, she wasn't supposed to care.
When Dying Eagle finally did speak, Angel was surprised at the pain in his voice. She recognized that pain, the pain of something that had been lost and could never return. And now her leader was speaking of saving lives. Her thoughts turned toward her parents, toward her brother. Could they have been saved? If they were still alive, how would her life be like. Surely she wouldn't be sitting here, she would probably be off with her mate, playing with her kits or teaching a Cat In Training how to hunt. She drew her eyes away from the water and plastered them to the ground. That was the life she wanted, wasn't it?
Darkened Angel turned around to look at her leader and was startled to see that the pain and desperation in her yellow eyes were matched in his green ones. Would you give up everything to save the lives that are being threatened now, or to save the lives of the past? she asked softly, knowing that she would choose the lives of the past. She wanted that life that she had dreamed about, to be able to smile again without having to have a solid reason. To be able to smile just to smile and feel the joy that it brought her. To be someone else then this emotionless shell that no one could ever love.
And even if that smile Wasn't meant for me, I'd stand in the background, fading and forgotten, knowing that you Would always be happy.

- | D y i n g - E a g l e | - - |What's more valuable? The lives that have been or the lives to come?| -
"Would you give up everything to save the lives that are being threatened now, or to save the lives of the past?" The leader couldn't help but let out a smile. He liked Darkened Angel, her words always brought something new to debate in his mind, something to think about and something...to care about. This little question in particular seemed to be interesting. To save the lives of the past would mean his mother would never have died from the green comet; his mate would never have died in the tunnels, and his father never would've died either. His family could be with him today and he could possibly have another life. He would surely have kits, be living in peace with happiness and joy, and be surrounded by the cats he loved...and possibly wouldn't even be leader which is something he never dreamed to be, unlike some of the other Ancients who might dream at night, thinking about what it might be like to lead all these cats.
But then again...is that fair? To bring the lives of the past back, would mean unable to live a life that might have been destined by some force and to have other loves. Cats of the past will always live on in memories and in dreams, and even though they can't be by you to actually talk to, there are others. There are cats alive now that could fill the void. That could show a love that might equal or at least get close to that he would've felt by his parents or Calling Birds. She might be dead, but there are others. Who said that just because she died that he couldn't find the same kind of love in another she-cat. For so many moons who had lived to reject the love of others, afraid that he would forget the love he had felt for Calling Birds, but now he was starting to doubt his intentions. Just because she was gone...was his life suppose to end? Would he punish the cats that were alive and rather bring back those from the past, just because he was never as close to them? He shook his head.
"The live being threatened now," he mewed, surprised by how strong and steady it seemed to be. "There were cats I loved that died, but heir deaths couldn't mean nothing. Just because their gone, doesn't mean I have the right to forget those who live now. Any friends I could have now don't have the right to be punished just because I want the ones I have already grown close to to come back. The living are still alive for a reason just like those who are dead, probably died for a reason as well." He couldn't see why a cat would die, bring pain to another cat's life, and just never come back without a reason. There had to be reason for everything...even if that reason was unknown for everybody.

She listened to his words but had to redirect her eyes somewhere else as he finished. They settled on the forest¡¯s edge and stayed there as Dying Eagle finished. She nodded faintly. So he felt different then her. He would actually want to save the lives of his friends now, instead of redoing the past and getting back everything that he had loved. That was something that she admired in him, Darkened Angel realized. She would give anything to go back and change the past so that she never became what she was today.
Wise words. she said, but her voice faltered and she turned away from her leader so that she could look out over the water instead. It hurt so much to think of the people she loved. She was not allowed to think of them, it would ruin the perfect safe haven that she had spent so hard to build. It would ruin the reputation of an emotionless cat that she had struggled to make others believe she was so that they would leave her alone. But then why was she sitting here? What had possessed her to bound over as soon as she saw her leader¡¯s form making his way toward the water?
I wish that... she said softly, not knowing if she should continue or not. Her conscience was screaming at her to shut up and do what she did best, run away and hide from her feelings. But she held her place and struggled to find the right words. That I could be like everyone else. she continued softly, as though the words were hurting her ears. If I could save the ones that I used to love, then maybe I wouldn¡¯t be like this. She strained to say the word love. It was such a strange and foreign word to her nowadays. She dared not glance back at Dying Eagle, and so she directed her pain-filled eyes to the ground. She wanted so bad to curl up into a ball and cry like she had done many, many nights before, but she was afraid that her leader would laugh and walk away. She was always afraid.
And when I draw my last breath, I¡¯ll pretend that you are there, Even if You have forgotten me. And as I pretend you say that you love me, I¡¯ll cry, Wishing that I could fix my life and be with you.

"Wise Words."
Me wise...no...not me. He shook his head, not wanting to think about it. Someone wise is someone who just knows things. To him, those wise cats never had to go through too many hardships to know what they know. No, to him there was a differences between learning from past mistakes and experiences, then just gaining knowledge with age. He flicked his tail and let out a silent sigh and looked around for a while trying just to clear his head. Memories that he tried for so long to just forget started to come back to him. Running around training with Calling Birds. After coming out of the dark tunnels, seeing her before anyone else. Why did these things have to happen? Why did life have to take those closest to cats and brisk them away into nothing? Would he ever see her again? What happened to a cat anyway when they died? Did they become nothing but a memory?
His ears flicked as she started to speak, softly at first but it seemed she got a little louder as she spoke more. Now whether she really was, or it was just him taking a couple steps closer, he couldn't say and didn't care. Her words struck him as odd for even though he never really hung-out easily with others...he didn't find her to be odd today. He thought about what she had said, and thought about what he had said before. It did make sense, but there was no reason to dwell over the past. No one can live in the past and make a future for themselves...can they? That thought was ironic, for he had been living in the past. Dying Eagle, the current leader of the Ancients, lived in the past through his memories and yet, he knew that no one could be truly happy until they took their heads out of those happy memories and started a new life for themselves.
A smile flickered across his face and he looked at the black she-cat. "Sometimes," he mewed softly, "The best way to bring back those you love...is to find others to love." He looked up at the clear blue sky and smiled, almost as if he could see the face of Calling Birds in the clouds that floated by. Whether or not she was out there somewhere or just a part of his memories now, the only way to truly be close to her again...would to be to find another she-cat that could at least a little close to what he had felt with her, but he still wasn't sure about it. It seemed unlikely that any cat would ever be what she had been like for him, or even close to it. Where his words really, all that truthful? Or did a part of him doubt them inside somewhere? Someone who was wise, would never feel doubts about his own words.
